1986 -  Almost nine years after it is launched, Voyager 2 passes within about 51,000 miles (82,000 km) of Uranus.  It discovers 10 new moons and two new rings, as well as several white ammonia clouds.  Voyager 2 also measures the length of the Uranian day.
